By: Denery Noone, Scott Brock-Wilson, and Justin Lynch
In the second installment of a four-part series, Denery, Scott, and Lynch cover the AFC South and AFC West.
Note: lines from bovada.com
Indianapolis Colts - Over/Under 11
Denery: UNDER: The Colts are frauds.
Scott: OVER: They will most likely sweep their division (except for maybe a game against the Texans) and have the best offense in the league, as they surrounded Luck with even more talent this year adding Johnson, Gore, and Dorsett. I don’t see anyone stopping them
Lynch: OVER: Luck keeps getting better and now he has Andre Johnson and Frank Gore to go with T.Y. Hilton and the rest (Donte Moncrief, Dwayne Allen, Coby Fleener). Likely to be 1-seed in AFC.
Houston Texans - Over/Under 8½
Denery: OVER: I think the Texans are a 10 win team, but I don't think that Brian hoyer lasts all 16 games. Look for mallett to have an impact this season.
Scott: UNDER: I see the Texans winning at most 8 games. Last year the Texans finished with a 9-7 record and boasted a great defense that will return J.J. Watt this year. But he will not be able to make up for the lack of offense that did nothing to improve from last year.
Lynch: UNDER: I’m out on the Texans. Offense is a complete mess, especially without Foster. Defense is solid and they have league’s easiest schedule for second year in a row, but I just can’t see them going over .500 with Mallet/Hoyer at QB.
Tennessee Titans - Over/Under 5½
Denery: OVER: Mariota will surprise people and lead this team to 6 wins, just barely making them an over.
Scott: UNDER: They have a young and talented core, but are still several years away. Mariota may show flashes, yet the NFL is a whole different game than college.
Lynch: UNDER: Not this year.. Despite all types of weapons in the receiving game (Wright, DGB, Douglas, Nicks, Hunter, Washington, Walker) and the hopes Sankey is at least serviceable, their defense is just too bad and Mariota is a question mark.
Jacksonville Jaguars - Over/Under 5½
Denery:UNDER: Bortles still hasn't proven anything to me, and they lost their first round pick, Dante Fowler, to a torn ACL.
Scott: UNDER: Yes, Bortles is getting better, but are the Jags really going to win 6 games?
Lynch: UNDER: I badly want to take the over, but I can’t bring myself to do it. Bolstered line (offensive and defensive), will have sneaky-fun offense. They will be better, but they won’t double their win total from last year (2014: 3 wins).
Denver Broncos - Over/Under 10
Denery: OVER: Manning will have another great regular season, along with their strong defense, but choke come playoff time again.
Scott: OVER: The Broncos seem to be flying under the radar this year. They are still up there with the Colts and Pats, and I expect Manning to be out for revenge after last years playoff loss. Their defense is just as good as their offense, so I see no reason why they can’t win over 10 games.
Lynch: OVER: Top five in both offensive and defensive DVOA in 2014. No huge losses in the offseason. Still have oodles of talent. Oh, and Peyton Manning.
Kansas City Chiefs - Over/Under 8½
Denery: OVER: I really like the Chiefs and Alex Smith's ability to manage games.
Scott: OVER: The Chiefs had a 9-7 last year and that was with zero contribution from the WR’s. Yes, Smith is nothing special, but he has Maclin and Charles to help. The defense returns Houston and Poe. The division will be tough this year with three potential playoff teams, but they can hit nine games once again.
Lynch: UNDER: Overperformed last year, I just don’t like Alex Smith.
San Diego Chargers - Over/Under 8
Denery: UNDER: I think that Rivers is past his prime and this team will have a tough season. Melvin Gordon won't reach expectations.
Scott: OVER: The Chargers re-upped Rivers with a big deal, and added Melvin Gordon and Stevie Johnson to help offensively. They did lose Matthews, but at least now they don’t need to worry about his durability issues and inconsistency.
Lynch: OVER: Certainly not a playoff threat, no real defense, but they have weapons offensively. I like them to repeat last year’s 9-7 record.
Oakland Raiders - Over/Under 5½
Denery: OVER: The combination of Derek Carr, Amari Cooper, and Michael Crabtree will push them over to 6 wins.
Scott: UNDER: They are improved, however, Cooper and Carr cannot do much. Not much else need be said except they won’t win 6.
Lynch: UNDER: Carr is better, new weapons in Cooper and Crabtree, emergence of Latavius Murray. Potentially worse O-Line without Wisniewski, still shaky on D, six wins is too high.
